Appointment of new CEO.

Dear Members

I wish to advise you that the Board has completed the recruitment action for the position of Chief Executive Officer.

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Mr Phil O’Reilly has accepted the position and will commence immediately as Chief Executive Officer at South Tamworth Bowling Club.

Phil has been employed by the club for some time as the Bowls Coordinator and Manager of the Bowls Shop.  Prior to his employment with the Club, Phil worked for the New South Wales Police Force for 33 years at various locations across New South Wales retiring as a Chief Inspector and Crime Manager of the Oxley Police District.

Phil has tertiary qualifications in Management, and has extensive training and experience in HR Management, and Licensing as well as other relevant qualifications.

Phil has a keen interest in lawn bowls which has been demonstrated in his role as Bowls Coordinator. He also has a great network across the bowls community with other Clubs, Zones and Bowls NSW Ltd.

As a resident of Tamworth for 20 years, and with his family also residing in Tamworth, Phil has a strong community focus and understanding of the role clubs play. He is committed to ensure South Tamworth Bowling Club remains a premium bowls facility, focussed on friendly hospitality, excellent customer service, as well as great dining, leisure, entertainment and gaming facilities for the benefit of all of our members and guests.

I would also on behalf of the board, like to thank Sarah Young for her work as Chief Executive Officer since November 2021 and our ever dedicated staff for their commitment to maintaining premium services to our members and guests.

I trust you will join the Board & Staff in welcoming Phil to the position of Chief Executive Officer.

Proudly Supporting NIAS at the Your Local Club Academy Games

South Bowlo are proud to support NIAS at the Your Local Club Academy Games. The event was hosted by the Southern Sports Academy from Friday 8th – Sunday 10th April 2022 across the Wagga Wagga region.

The 2022 Your Local Club Academy Games showcased some of the state’s most talented emerging athletes across seven (7) sports including Basketball, Cycling, Golf, Hockey, Netball, Indoor Volleyball and Triathlon.

The NIAS team boarded their bus at South Tamworth Bowling Club and were given best wishes by Director Stephen Mitchell and CEO Sarah Young.

Congratulations to the NIAS Netball squad for coming away with more wins then they have in previous years, and against some typically challenging Academies. And congratulations to the NIAS hockey girls for making it through to the Grand Final and finishing with silver medals.

South Bowlo Donates $3,027.57 to Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service

The South Tamworth Bowling Club recently donated $3,027.00 to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.

These funds will enable procurement of a cable conditioning weight system needed for the Service’s Tamworth operations base.

This important equipment is used for maintaining the rescue hoist cable – the condition of which is vital to mission success and safety.

On average, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service flies more than 1,500 missions a year, and community support goes directly towards ensuring it is ready to respond as swiftly as possible around the clock every day to critically ill and injured community members.

Jeff Galbraith, Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service’s event coordinator for the New England North West region, said: “South Tamworth Bowling Club has been a long-term supporter as a member of Club 139 and through involvement in local fundraising events. This grant is another fantastic example of the support we receive from our community, ensuring the service is ready to help those in need, and we can’t say thank you enough.”
